Fireplace DeConstruction

Well, I'd wanted to finish up the dog door today but instead we took the day easy for the most part. We did however start on the fireplace and I must say, even removing parts of it is a vast improvement.
Now, for those who may not recall what the fireplace looked like, here is a nice shot. It doesn't fit the layout of the house at all and to top it off, it's foam.
Ha! I breaka your legs!
Now, this is a nice shot of what's under it. In fact, it was a nice enough shot that I wanted to bust more apart, which I did slightly later.
Best part is the pile of foam that we ended up with while busting off the sheeting around the forms which butt up against the wall.
And, to end, a nice shot of the sheeting gone from one side.
There's still tons of work to do on removing the foam. My goal for tomorrow is to get the dog door in and finished off. If I have time after that I'll be putting more work into the fireplace to strip it down.
Once it's stripped down I'll tape up some cardboard to block holes and start making measurements on the new mantel which I'll be building out of MDF and stock molding since it will be painted.
