In Search of Lion

Do you have kids? Do your kids have any toys they are SO attached to that loosing them would end in the need for therapy at the age of 40? I do. In fact I have two of my own. Kids that is, who seem to be so attached to these items of amazement that I don’t think they will ever part with them.

I’ve wondered to myself what special attachment they have with these somewhat trivial toys. I say trivial almost half winded knowing full well that the value of the toys is well beyond face in their minds and hearts.

Erin.jpgThere wouldn’t be a problem with this at all. In fact, there’s not one. My daughter has had this larger green Ty teddy bear since she was two years old. It was a gift from her great grandmother. She’s carried it all over the place and has on several occasions gone off searching for it before proceeding with other activities. Must have Suzy.

img10471948256.gifThe bear will tread on, with little need but a stitch and a washing from time to time. Lion on the other hand is another story. You see, Lion is my five month olds absolute favorite item to play with. Any time lion is around he reaches out and snatches it up, proceeding to smother it and chew on its head.

Lion is quite the wonder. In 2003 it was one of the highest rated toys for babies. Yes, the Sassy Baby Lyrical Lion was absolutely a wonder. With a pull of its “tail” it plays a wonderful little ditty that I can hum by memory now. But what is to become of the world if anything happens to it?

A stitch here, a wash there, but a broken musical tail sends a shiver down my spine. If it breaks there is no hope for the world..

Ok, a little dramatic I know! If anything does happen he’ll surely just find something else to play with, such as the large baby safe beanbag style puppy that we just got for him which is just a hair bigger than himself. Still a fun question though.

So we searched for a while, in fact, almost half of the day was spent wondering around the Internet in search of Lion. He’s a hard little critter to find. Under brush and rock we looked without a trace of him in the United States. You see, this lion seems to have gone AWOL and defected to China. It’s the only location where he was spotted for sale.

Will we ever find a twin of Lion in the US again? Who knows? But I can assure you, I’ve got one eye to the side watchfully waiting for the day that another lion appears half hidden under some other discarded toys.
